How to buy and use Solar (SXP) on its native network

Solar (SXP) is a Layer 1 blockchain that launched in 2019. It operates as a community-driven network where the SXP coin is used as the native utility token. Unlike networks that rely on massive mining farms, Solar uses a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus model. This means the network is secured by 53 elected Block Producers who verify transactions.

Verified routes to get SXP

You can find SXP on several centralized exchanges and a few decentralized options. Depending on your preferred trading pair, the following routes are verified:

What the native network does

The Solar network is designed for governance and utility. Coin holders can participate in the network by voting for the Block Producers who maintain the infrastructure. This DPoS system is intended to be more energy efficient than Proof of Work and more resistant to 51% attacks.

On the technical side, Solar Core uses BIP340 Schnorr signatures. It does not support ECDSA signatures, which is a choice made to remove vulnerabilities related to signature malleability. In the real world, SXP has been integrated into services like travala.com for travel bookings and coinsbee.com for gift cards.

Wallet, transfer, and network-fee checks

When moving SXP, you must verify which network your exchange is using. While SXP has its own Layer 1 blockchain, it may appear as a token on other platforms. Always check the withdrawal network in your exchange settings before sending funds.

To verify your transactions or check an address, you can use the official Solar explorer. If you want to look at the actual implementation of the network, the source code is available on GitHub.

Self-custody and withdrawal risks

Holding funds on an exchange carries inherent risks. For those who prefer self-custody, hardware wallets like those from Ledger are common choices for securing private keys.

Be aware of the following risks:

  • Withdrawal and deposit support for specific networks is not verified for the exchanges listed above.
  • Account features and KYC requirements change based on your country.
  • Reports from Bitcoin Foundation mention a significant price collapse in 2026, citing the migration from Swipe to Solar and the transition to an independent ecosystem as key historical events.

Sources and methodology

The routes listed in this guide are pulled exclusively from verified market-pair rows in our database. Background information on the project and risk context comes from web research and news sources. Information from CoinMarketCap pages is treated as low-confidence context. Live market values, such as price and volume, are omitted because they change too frequently to remain accurate in a static guide.
